Longines Les Sentimentales “Sympathie Blue Breguet” Ref. 5094 (circa 1980s)

WHY WE CURATED IT:
Apex-level Longines Octagon collectability! Firstly, it’s not called Sympathie obviously (Longines’ Heritage Department confirms it’s from the “Les Sentimentales” collection). Sympathie is a recent nickname stemming from similarities to Roger Dubuis’ Sympathie watch cases. And no, he did not design it while working at Longines, as some claim. He was there not as a designer, but as a young after-sales employee in the 50s. By the 60s, he had left for Patek. These Longines were from the 70s so the timeline speaks for itself, and confirmed by Longines. They’re therefore not homages of Sympathies either (released in the 90s). More likely the other way around, as Dubuis often drew inspiration from past influences. Perhaps the most beautiful Longines ever and highly sought after, especially in this version with a blue fumé dial, Breguet numerals and feuille hands. Not to be missed!

CONDITION:
8.5/10, with some hairlines and microscopic nicks. Generally honest wear for the age, with intact gold plating throughout. Dial, printing, hands and crystal are clean. Original signed crown and original signed crown. Caseback has crisp engravings. Movement excellent with near-spec power reserve, strong amplitude, low beat error and accurate to within ±10 secs/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
