WHY WE CURATED IT:
A Carrera with the dimensions, proportions and materials of its legendary 60s Heuer 2447 muse, but with 90s reliability and build quality. Most reissues are “modernised” with proportions that ruin wearability and elegance but this once, TAG Heuer stayed faithful paying tribute to the racing chronographs directly liked to 60s F1 and motorsports. Can you imagine the fights in the TAG boardroom when they dropped the 1980s parent company and signed this Heuer-only? The only visible difference is that “Carrera” was also dropped, as there were questions about Porsche’s trademark in the 90s. We love that they updated the movement from the original (and defunct) Valjoux 72 to the Lemania 1873 (same base as the Omega Moonwatch of the era), lending to the availability of spare parts unlike the original. Perhaps the best reissue done by any brand and a beautifully understated chronograph with deep history. In spectacular condition, full set, overhauled in 2022 and fitted with a bespoke handmade strap!
CONDITION:
9.5/10, minimal hairlines. Dial, hands, printing, indices all spectacularly pristine with intact tritium lume plots developing a slight creamy patina. Crystal is clean. Original signed crown. Original buckle has a small blemish. Caseback has crisp engravings. Movement overhauled in 2022 and in stellar condition with above-spec power reserve, strong amplitude, negligible beat error and accurate to within ±5 secs/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
